Everyone Can Sing and Play
The music program at Pinewood serves all students. Through singing, listening, moving, creating, playing, and reading music, students develop and refine their skills in the music concepts of duration, pitch, tone color, expression, design and cultural context. These concepts connect with National Standards for Music Education. Efforts are always made to integrate music instruction with specific themes being studied in other curricular areas and multicultural music is presented in all classes throughout the year. Students in grade 3 are taught the recorder. Grades 2 through 5 present an annual grade level production.
Musical ensembles at Pinewood include Handbell Choirs, Lower School Choir, Middle School Glee Club, Upper School Choir, Advanced Choir, and Guitar Choir. In addition to enrichment classes at the middle school level, high school music classes include the hugely popular Music Technology, Choir, Guitar and Piano, and AP Music Theory. Pinewood has three full-time music teachers on its faculty.
