Upper School Curriculum

Overview

The curriculum at PPS is driven by the benchmarks and standards set by a number of nationally recognized organizations that form the “industry standards” for the various disciplines. These standards and benchmarks contain both content and skills.

Department of Humanities

English Division: The National Council of Teachers of English

History Division: National Center for History in the Schools

Mathematics:   National Council of Teachers of Mathematics

Science: National Science Education Standards

Languages: American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages

Technology: International Society for Technology in Education

Additional Standards

In the middle school teachers have long relied on Core Knowledge Curriculum as an enrichment tool for other skills and content.

In the high school the most difficult classes are offered as Advanced Placement classes. We also offer Dual Credit classes in cooperation with Trident Technical College.

High school electives are designed by individual teachers, with national or regional standards in mind as necessary.
