What is Idea Lab?
Idea Lab is Pinewood’s version of a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) program for students in grades K3-12. It is a fantastic opportunity for all Pinewood students to advance beyond their peers at other schools with a unique and competitive advantage. Idea Lab is a platform for innovation, design thinking, and engineering; all built on a foundation of applied mathematics, science, and technology.
Our young people are capable of extraordinary ideas and scholarly pursuit. Idea Lab will give them all a platform to exercise these abilities and passions. It does not matter if a student has a specific orientation towards science, mathematics, or technology - Idea Lab is a place for the creative, the innovative, the poet, or the artist. Our goal is to educate the next generation of game-changers, the next creators of knowledge and invention.
It is a project and challenge-based series of classes focusing on the process of innovation and problem solving using applied math, science, and technology. Delivered differently at different age levels, students will use state of the art hands on technology to learn programming, robotics, design, engineering, and innovation processes. The program will have strong academic roots in mathematics and science. In addition, the students will have the opportunity to participate in something called Makerspace.
