New Faces in 2017-2018
Allison Bailey, PK3 Lead Teacher
Allison comes to Pinewood from St. Paul’s Learning Center, where she recently served as a PK4 assistant. While at St. Paul's, Mrs. Bailey taught a special area class in global studies using her own curriculum. Allison graduated from Lambuth University with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies, K-8. She has also earned an M.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from the College of Charleston. Her expertise in curriculum, implementation, and assessment is rooted in eleven years of teaching in public schools and a private preschool. At the core of her teaching philosophy is that all children can learn given a positive learning environment that welcomes exploration and enhances self-confidence.
Stephanie Brickles, Lower School Idea Lab and Theater
Stephanie has taught in Berkeley County since 2014, most recently as a Grade 4 math and science teacher at Nexton Elementary. Stephanie also created and led their after-school Performing Arts Clubs. Prior to her time in the district, Stephanie (a resident of Colorado) worked as a teacher at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science where she educated visitors with hands-on experiments and demonstrations. Stephanie is a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado earning a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies with an emphasis on elementary teaching. She holds a state teaching certificate in both Colorado and South Carolina. When not busy with the Summerville Singers Choir, she is a certified swim instructor.
J.W. Myers, Middle School Social Studies and Assistant Football Coach
J.W. comes to Pinewood from Coastal Christian in Mt. Pleasant where he has served for the past seven years as a teacher of middle school social studies and member of the athletic department, most notably as head varsity football coach. He is excited to work on Coach Michael Wright’s staff as our offensive line coach. J.W. holds a BA in Communications with a minor in history from Charleston Southern University. J.W. is originally from Jacksonville, Florida where he attended a wonderful independent school, Episcopal. He recently completed his MAT in Teaching Secondary Education with a focus on Social Studies from Liberty University.
Amber Reed, Lower and Middle School Art
Amber comes to Pinewood from College Park Elementary where she has worked since 2012 as a visual arts instructor. Prior to her time there, Amber worked at Black River High School in Ohio, which is her native state. Amber holds a professional certificate and license in teaching K-12 visual arts. She holds a BA in Arts Education from the University of Akron. Amber has helped her students create artwork for a great many local art shows in the Charleston area and is a member of the National Art Education Association. When not teaching, Amber helps out at the YMCA. She is also a soccer enthusiast.
